Check in baggage with the BAGTAG app

A number of airlines allow you to check in your baggage using the BAGTAG app. This feature is currently supported by Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Air Dolomiti, KLM, Qatar Airways, Brussels Airlines and Icelandair.

Haven’t got the BAGTAG app yet? Download it now from the App store and Google Play store.

Step 01

Add devices

If you haven’t used the BAGTAG app before, please create an account in the BAGTAG app.

Next, add your BAGTAG device(s) to your account. Navigate to the device tab with the suitcase icon and select the ‘Add device’ option. Follow the instructions to add BAGTAGs to your account.

Download the manual below for more information on how to add a BAGTAG.

Step 02

Start a journey

First, use the airline app or website to check in for your flight. Then open the BAGTAG app to start the process.

Starting a journey for the first time? After registering in the app, click the “select your airline” button on the app homepage.

Have you already used the BAGTAG app for a journey? Click the ‘+’ sign in the upper right-hand corner of the journeys tab, which opens by clicking on the airplane.

Step 03

Find your booking

Find your booking by selecting your airline from the list. Enter your booking information to start the baggage check-in process.

Your booking reference is a series of six letters and numbers and can be found in your airline booking confirmation email. A journey is created and you can proceed to check in baggage for your flight.

Please note that if your booking is not found, there is a possibility that the arrival and/or departure airport has not enabled the BAGTAG functionality yet. Refer to the supported airline page for more information.

Step 04

Check in & tag

Check in your baggage and receive the electronic baggage label in the app. If the information is somehow incorrect, you can always restart the process.

The label is now ready to be transferred to the BAGTAG. Follow the instructions in the app to do so.

Please note that baggage check-in is only available from 23h before departure.

Step 05

Drop off at the airport

All you have to do at the airport is to drop off your baggage. BAGTAGs are accepted at both self-service bag drop machines and manned check-in desks.

Please check the supported airline page you are flying with to see if there are any airport or flight exceptions.

Not using the BAGTAG?

Clear the display

Don’t want to use the BAGTAG on a trip or can’t use it with an airline yet? You can still leave the device on your baggage by clearing the display.

First, locate the device in the BAGTAG app and choose the ‘try out this tag’ option.

Scroll down and select the ‘clear BAGTAG’ option. Follow the steps in the app.  The BAGTAG should now be cleared of any previous flight information.
